Operations Group

The Operations group within the Beams department (BE-OP) is responsible for the operation, including hardware and beam commissioning, of all CERN present and future accelerators, beam lines towards their associated experimental areas and for the monitoring of the overall technical infrastructure at CERN. This responsibility includes: professional operations staff on shift and their supervision, as well as the supervision and co-ordination of the production and delivery of all particle beams. During periods of operation the group is responsible for the safety and access in the installations together with the launch, supervision and co-ordination of interventions on the CERN-wide technical infrastructure.

The group also is responsible for the operational machine configuration and the associated settings management, which includes the development of methods and dedicated tools required to operate the accelerator complex and technical infrastructure within supported development frameworks and members of the group contribute to the specification and development of those frameworks.

Other tasks for the group include establishing and maintaining accelerator operation schedules, preparing operational procedures and providing beam statistics, as well as preparing of and participating in machine studies and the development and maintenance of some accelerator related hardware.
